1. The winning entry will be bound by the conditions of a publishing contract set out by publishing partner Freight Books. The contract will stipulate that the winner of the Dundee International Book Prize shall grant, in return for £5,000 prize money and a royalty of 12% of net receipts on sales of printed copies, and 25% of net receipts from the sale of ebooks, that Freight Design (Scotland) Ltd trading as Freight Books will have rights to publish the novel in the English language anywhere in the world and the right to make editorial changes to the content in consultation with the author. A draft contract will be available on request to entrants to the prize. International translation rights, audio book and straight-reading rights representation will be agreed separately with the winner.
  2. The prize money is set at £5,000.
  3. The prize also includes an invitation to the Dundee Literary Festival and a week of protected writing time in Dundee (to be arranged at the winner’s discretion)
  4. The winner shall be informed by 12th September 2017 of their win.
  5. The prize is not open to members of the judging panel, their families or any employee or director of Freight Books or their families.
  6. The prize is judged in two rounds. Round One of entries is judged by Literary Dundee and Freight Books. Round Two is judged by a judging panel of established authors and commentators.
  7. The panel’s decision is final.
